In more than 50 years as an educator, Betty Vinzant has taught every core subject—plus art and special education—to students from early childhood to middle school. She started her teaching career in Kansas, and then served as a reading specialist for Houston ISD, where she was named Teacher of the Year multiple times. She later established her own tutoring company and school. After retiring in 2013, she found that she missed the everyday liveliness of teaching. Her retirement lasted just two years, and she stepped back into the classroom as a member of Holy Spirit’s faculty in 2015. The vibrant Mrs. Vinzant has taken a wide range of professional development courses, all of which help her create an engaging and welcoming environment where students are able to flourish academically, socially, physically, and emotionally. She holds a bachelor’s in elementary education from Prairie View A&M University, and enjoys reading books, watching documentaries, listening to KSBJ radio, and volunteering at her church.
