    The Primary School Teacher will facilitate the growth of students in a student-centered, developmentally appropriate environment, focusing on research-based best practices following a differentiated, balanced approach and curriculum. While developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, parents, and faculty members, the Primary School Teacher will recognize and coach the social-emotional needs of each student.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Design and maintain an organized, engaging, thoughtfully arranged classroom reflecting and supporting the HSES philosophy of play-based learning. 
    • Establish routines and procedures that promote a safe, orderly, joyful learning environment.
    • Use standards based, research based, developmentally appropriate practices to prepare lessons and activities that build independent, life-long learners.
    • Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress through careful observation; plan and implement differentiated instruction based on assessment.
    • Provide clear written and verbal communication with the families of students as needed.
    • Willingness to learn and implement current educational programs utilized at HSES including but not limited to Rice Early Literacy practices, Handwriting Without Tears, Bridges in Mathematics, and Conscious Discipline.
    • Proficient with technology and demonstrates willingness to learn and further develop technology utilized at HSES including but not limited to:

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
    • State certification in teaching
    • Minimum of three years of experience in independent schools preferred
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills, including the ability to relate effectively with colleagues, parents, and students

    Physical Requirements

    • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment
    • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold

    Position Title: Ignite After School Care Instructor
    Reports To: Head of After School and Summer Programming
    Work Hours: Monday-Friday from 2:30-6:00 PM, with the exception of school holidays and/or closures

    Ignite After School Care Instructor is responsible for providing oversight, safety, afterschool curriculum, and care to Holy Spirit Episcopal School (HSES) students in the after school program. Ignite Instructors will ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the after school care programming. Responsibilities vary depending on the age of the students but do require planning and executing a program in accordance with the philosophy and policies of HSES, including snack, outdoor activities, and age appropriate games, arts, and craft activities.

    Essential Duties

    • Provide appropriate classroom supervision of the children, guiding and redirecting their behavior as needed.
    • Demonstrates working understanding of the planned daily curriculum and after school schedule.
    • Reinforces Holy Spirit Episcopal School’s culture in working with fellow staff members and students.
    • Understanding of pick-up and drop-off procedures from classes to carpool.
    • Sets up and cleans up materials or supplies utilized for lessons/crafts/games.
    • Assist students with toileting needs and personal hygiene, as needed.
    • Sorts student work in preparation for crafts to be taken home.
    • Retrieves school bags and water bottles so students are ready for pick-up.
    • Assists with creation, documentation, and maintenance of student work.
    • Maintains technology skills in keeping with the standards of the school.
    • Participates in all recommended training programs.

    Qualifications 

    • 18 years of age or older
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Experience working with young children, preferably in an independent school setting.
    • Ability to communicate and relate effectively with colleagues, parents, and students.
    • Dependability and ability to embrace HSES culture and team building.

    Position Title: Permanent Substitute Teacher

    Reports to: Head of Human Resources; dotted line to academic division heads

    The Permanent Substitute Teacher will provide flexible instructional and classroom support across various grade levels and subjects as needed. This role requires a highly adaptable individual who can step into different classroom environments and seamlessly manage daily lessons, student activities, and classroom routines. The permanent substitute teacher may cover short-term teacher absences or assist with special projects across the school.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Serve as an on-call substitute for absent teachers across various grades and subjects (Pre-K 3 to 8th Grade) or Front Desk, often at short notice.
    • Keep track of assigned coverage on a Google Doc shared with the Head of HR, Head and Assistant Head of Primary School, and Head and Assistant Head of Lower and Middle
    • School.
    • Follow and implement lesson plans provided by the lead teacher or, if necessary, create instructional plans aligned with the curriculum.
    • Manage classroom behavior, ensuring a positive, productive, and safe learning environment for all students.
    • Provide assistance to students in understanding and completing their classwork.
    • Collaborate with other teachers, assistant teachers, and school staff to provide academic support and address any classroom needs.
    • Supervise students during transition times, lunch, recess, or other scheduled enrichments.
    • Maintain effective communication with administration and fellow staff members regarding classroom progress and challenges.
    • Ensure adherence to school policies, procedures, and schedules.
    • Maintain confidentiality to protect students and staff; the floater position has the unique opportunity to see every class and child across campus and therefore will see a representation of different teacher styles and student needs. The floater must maintain the highest standard of professionalism and confidentiality and avoid discussing personal opinions regarding staff and students with other colleagues. Such concerns should be directed to the Head of HR.
    • When there is no assigned position, check with the Head and Assistant Head of Primary School and Head and Assistant Head of Lower and Middle School to receive instructions for special projects or class assignments.
    • Assist in morning Primary School carpool and walking late arrivals to class, unless otherwise assigned.
    • Maintain the tidiness and upkeep of the shared community spaces.
    • Oversee distribution of lunches for students and confirm staff orders.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree (preferred but not required).
    • Previous experience in (substitute) teaching or classroom management is a plus.
    • Strong adaptability and ability to work with different age groups and subjects.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with children.

    Skills and Abilities

    • Ability to quickly adapt to different classroom settings and teaching styles.
    • Strong classroom management skills.
    • Ability to follow lesson plans or improvise when necessary.

    Substitute Teachers are called on to assist with instruction in the event of a faculty absence or a need in other areas of the school.
