Position Title: Primary School Teacher
Reports To: Head of Primary School
Work Hours: 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Work Calendar: School Year (Blackout dates may apply)

The Primary School Teacher will facilitate the growth of students in a student-centered, developmentally appropriate environment, focusing on research-based best practices following a differentiated, balanced approach and curriculum. While developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, parents, and faculty members, the Primary School Teacher will recognize and coach the social-emotional needs of each student.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain an organized, engaging, thoughtfully arranged classroom reflecting and supporting the HSES philosophy of play-based learning. 
  • Establish routines and procedures that promote a safe, orderly, joyful learning environment.
  • Use standards based, research based, developmentally appropriate practices to prepare lessons and activities that build independent, life-long learners.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress through careful observation; plan and implement differentiated instruction based on assessment.
  • Provide clear written and verbal communication with the families of students as needed.
  • Willingness to learn and implement current educational programs utilized at HSES including but not limited to Rice Early Literacy practices, Handwriting Without Tears, Bridges in Mathematics, and Conscious Discipline.
  • Proficient with technology and demonstrates willingness to learn and further develop technology utilized at HSES including but not limited to: 
    • Google platform
    • SMART panels
    • Seesaw
    • Planbook
    • FACTS
    • Attendance
    • Report Cards
  • Model life-long learning by attending and implementing relevant Professional Development.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Administration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field preferred
  • State certification in teaching preferred
  • Minimum of three years of experience in independent schools preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills, including the ability to relate effectively with colleagues, parents, and students

Physical Requirements

  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
  • Physical agility: lift up to 30 pounds, stoop, bend, kneel, stand, walk, reach and sit on the floor
