New Head of CEC and Primary School

We are excited to welcome Whitney Zisman, M. Ed. as our new Head of CEC and Primary School on June 1, 2018. Whitney joins us with more than 15 years of teaching and leadership experience and currently serves as an early education consultant, literacy specialist and mentor for Rice University's Literacy and Culture Program. Along with co-leading monthly seminars for the Classroom Storytelling project, she also mentors multiple teachers around the Houston area and leads presentations at various teacher in-service training programs. Drawing on her 10 years of Pre-Kindergarten teaching experience at St. Francis Episcopal School and her days as a high school teacher before that, she believes that children explore, learn, and discover through a balanced approach to teaching and learning in meaningful scenarios.

Whitney graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX with a BA in History & Political Science. Later, she received her M.Ed. degree from the University of St. Thomas and also received several teaching awards, including a grant to study with teachers from around the world at the Reggio Emilia schools in Italy through the Sarah W. Woolrich Fund for Faculty. She is also a member of the first cohort of teachers to receive a certificate from Rice University for completing the three-year intensive Early Literacy Leadership Academy.  Passionate about best practices in early childhood education, Whitney believes in self-reflection and continued growth as an educator through research and connections with teachers and students from around the city of Houston and beyond.  Outside of her career, Whitney enjoys traveling with her husband, Stan, family life with their combined five children and her two adorable dogs.
We invite you to meet Whitney in person during morning drop-off hours on April 5th and 6th, from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. She will also begin shadowing Mrs. Northington in May and will be available to meet families during this time.

STEAM and Coffee

Parents joined us for our first STEAM coffee gathering. They learned about how HSES teachers incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics across all curricula. They also participated in a STEAM challenge by engineering a solution to help Jack escape down the beanstalk away from the giant! This hands-on approach to learning not only awakens creative confidence in our students but in our parents as well!

HSES Voted Best in Early Education!

Living Magazine readers have selected Holy Spirit Episcopal School as the best option in Early Education. The selection was included in the 2016 Best Professional Services in the Memorial area of Houston. The Child Enrichment Center and Primary School at HSES provide a warm and nurturing Christian environment where our younger students can explore the world around them. The highly qualified faculty and staff offer exceptional care worth the award. Congratulations!
