Dear Parents, 

At this time last year, we had no idea how much things would change in a matter of weeks. I am proud of our community and the success we have displayed in navigating a global pandemic. We opened in August with the option for in-person and virtual learning and maintained a choice for families throughout this uncertain time. By reducing class sizes and implementing safety protocols, we have only encountered a few isolated cases, we have successfully prevented community spread, and we have upheld our promise to remain open for in-person learning to the greatest extent possible.
Every spring, we renew teacher contracts. Last year, we were unable to raise salaries for our loyal employees due to the uncertainty paired with low enrollment. In June, when we reopened Early Childhood, it was only running at a 5% capacity! Then, as months passed, families began to feel more comfortable and enrollment steadily began to increase. Fast forward to present day, and we have welcomed 22 new Saints in January alone.
This includes new students from other area public and private schools that learned of our success in keeping our community safe and our school open during these circumstances. But due to COVID-19 and capped classes, this growth also signifies additional expenses that default to reserves allocated for years of hardship. First with Hurricane Harvey and now with the global pandemic.
Teachers and staff have not slowed down during these challenging circumstances, they continue to give 110%. Not only have they readily adapted to distance learning and safety protocols, but they have also reimagined methods for teaching and hosting events. All of this to continue providing a nurturing and academically rich environment for students to thrive.
A raise in compensation is essential for the next school year to recognize their immeasurable efforts. Salaries and benefits are the highest operating expense, representing 75% of the total budget. Therefore, this year’s increase in tuition will directly apply to faculty and staff compensation. This recognizes their dedication and allows for the school to attract and attain top-notch professionals.
We also want to retain our valued families, which is why we are offering priority enrollment. Once the word is out to families that seek a safe haven for their children, we can no longer guarantee a space for your child unless you re-enroll early. If changes in tuition or family circumstances are a concern, contact Ranelle Johnson in the Business Office to explore options to continue at HSES.
Although no one can predict when this pandemic will end, our hope is that at some point, maybe early next school year, we will return to a “sense of normal.”  We can’t wait for the day we can welcome visitors back on campus and enjoy community events. Our community is a defining feature at HSES – it makes us shine! We look forward to being together again and celebrating a new year of fresh possibilities!

Re-Enrollment Preference Form and Fee

To re-enroll in Early Childhood and secure a placement for the next school year, follow these simple steps divided into two phases:
  1. Complete the online Re-Enrollment Preference Form and Fee by Friday, Feb. 12. The non-refundable re-enrollment fee is due with the Preference Form to reserve your spot for 2021-2022.
    • Placement for the next school year is on a first-come-first-serve basis.
    • Submit a separate form and fee for each child.  
  2. Electronic contracts with details based on Preference Form selections will be available Monday, March 1.
    • Parents will receive detailed instructions to finish the online re-enrollment process by signing the contract through the parent portal.
Enrollment for new families opens Monday, March 8 and spaces are no longer guaranteed.

Easy Steps to Re-Enroll

  1. Log in to the Parent Portal - use district code HSE-TX.
  2. Do NOT create a new account, use the temporary credentials that you received in a separate message.
  3. Select “Apply/Enroll” in the left navigation menu.
  4. Click the link under “Enrollment/Reenrollment.”
  5. Complete the Online Enrollment Packet.
  6. Submit $500 deposit (applies towards tuition.)
  7. Remit online re-enrollment packet and deposit by Friday, Feb. 12 to avoid late fees.

Free Birthday Marquee

Re-enroll by Friday, Feb. 12 and the birthday marquee is on us!
The school marquee is a priceless item that is auctioned every year as part of the school fundraising. Now is the opportunity to highlight your child’s birthday for a full week with a special mention visible to everyone. The offer applies for the 2021-2022 school year. Summer birthdays will be featured the first week of school. More than one child? Each contract you submit is eligible for this popular free item.
