Holy Spirit Episcopal School offers numerous programs and opportunities that promote the development of the whole child. Activities such as Athletics and fitness, Visual and Performing Arts, student government and leadership, academic competitions, community service, outdoor education, mission work in Costa Rica, and much more.

The sports and athletic programs at HSES develop physical skills, sportsmanship, leadership character, and ability to work as a team for children of all age ranges. We offer a variety of sports for children primary to fourth grade students through Youth Sports. Beginning in fifth grade, students have the opportunity to compete in various Junior Varsity and Varsity sports throughout the school year, combined with the Physical Education curriculum.

Research shows that learning a foreign language boosts brain development. The integrated Spanish curriculum starts in Primary 3 with enrichment classes to develop the language skill through sensory and vocabulary activities. In Lower School, the enrichment class introduces the cultural aspect, connecting students to global awareness that aligns with their geography learnings. By Middle School, students develop enough conversational comprehension to make Spanish a core subject until eighth grade.

The Visual and Performing Arts program inspires confidence. Students in Primary, Lower and Middle School are exposed to theater and art classes that allows them to appreciate the performing arts and offers each grade the opportunity to perform before an audience. The program emphasizes the arts by learning theory and principles of art, history and musical instruments.

For HSES students, the mission experience in Costa Rica awakens an interest in the variety of beliefs, cultures, and heritage, as well as the importance of service. In conjunction with the Episcopal Diocese in Costa Rica, Middle School students may choose to participate in this experience that includes mission work with local Episcopal organizations and excursions to highlight the culture and beauty of Costa Rica. This international travel experience builds a global awareness and appreciation for diversity that students will apply throughout their lives.

Holy Spirit Episcopal School provides after-school care and activities in partnership with Kidventure. Every semester, Kidventure Encore offers a variety of enrichment classes for students of all age levels. These fun activities include cooking, ballet, piano, art, tumbling, soccer and more.

Ecolink (a.ka. environment, community and outreach) is the outdoor education program unique to Holy Spirit Episcopal School that fosters respect, love and understanding for our environment. It encourages students to pursue mental, physical, and spiritual challenges, while developing leadership, cooperation, and tolerance skills. Students in kinder through eighth grade participate in an Ecolink opportunity that exposes them to a diversity of ecosystems.

We have partnered with Rice University’s School Literacy and Culture to expose early childhood students to best practices in literacy instruction. HSES honors and values the words, thoughts and ideas of every child. Learning through play, story dictation and dramatization showcase the creativity of students with a hands-on concept to make stories come alive. Young toddlers through kindergarten students immerse in this practice that transitions seamlessly into Reading and Writing Workshop in Lower School.

HSES admits students of any race, creed, color, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded, or made available to students at the school. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, national or ethnic origin in the administration of educational or admission policies, scholarship programs, athletics or any other school-administered programs.
