GRADE 3: Communication Projects
(click here for corresponding lesson plans)

Theme: My Community
Time Frame: September

St. Michael's will begin these projects. Classroom teachers and students will decide on questions they would like to have answered about the city where the sister-school is located. Then they will use the free translation service on Alta Vista, http://babelfish.altavista.com/translate.dyn to translate the questions into the foreign language. The questions can be put in the format of a questionnaire or list of questions. They can all be sent at once or several each week for several weeks. The foreign language teacher will check and correct any errors made by the translator. Then the survey will be e-mailed to the sister-school. The response to the survey and a list of questions the other school wants to know will be e-mailed back. Mrs. Ruiz will assure that the process is taking place according to the schedule that she has set up with the classroom teachers and St. Michael's.

The following suggested questions and translation could be used as a starting point. Other possible questions can be found in the Where Do I Live? module of the Who Am I? project on www.kidlink.org/KIDPROJ/projects.html.
