Theme: Activities at My School with Osito and T. Bear
Time Frame: Mid-August - December 1

Toy bears will send photos and simple e-mail messages in the foreign language about their school to the other school's second grade classes. At the end of six weeks, the bears will be mailed to the other school with various cultural items and children at the other school will send messages about the activities at their school. From mid-August until October 1, Mrs. Ruiz and the classroom teachers at Holy Spirit will take at least 10 pictures of Osito and T. Bear with children doing different school activities. These pictures can be taken with the digital camera and sent by computer or taken with regular camera and mailed. They could also be put together and scanned onto one page. The children will also be assigned to make or gather some small items for Osito and T. Bear to take with them when they travel to Costa Rica. Mrs. Ruiz and the classroom teachers will have to work together to co-ordinate these photos and items. From mid-October until December 1, St. Michael's children will send messages to Holy Spirit to the e-mail addresses of Mrs. Ruiz about the activities of the bears. We will then have to decide what happens to the bears.

Late August:

  • Osito and T. Bear are introduced to the Spanish classes at Holy Spirit
  • First picture is taken of the Spanish classes with Osito and T. Bear
  • Introductory pictures of Osito and T. Bear with simple Spanish phrases are scanned and sent by e-mail to St. Michael's during Spanish class. Mrs. Ruiz can add to message if she decides to do so.

Next several weeks (or on a certain day of the week):
Pictures of children doing different things are scanned and sent with messages in Spanish classes. During this time classroom teachers are helping with picture taking and having children gather or make items to be sent with the bears to Costa Rica. Mrs. Ruiz is responsible for sending the photos and messages. Classroom teachers will make a book with photograhs and descriptions in Spanish. Mrs. Ruiz will help them with language.

Early October:
Osito and T. Bear leave Holy Spirit on their great adventure! Mrs. Beverly Aderholt is responsible for the mailing.

Mid October:
Similar activities begin at St. Michael's.
