Welcome to the HSES Library Resources Page Teaching students to be lifelong readers Mrs. Parrish, Librarian librarian@hses.org
The Learning Resources Center (library) serves the entire Holy Spirit community. The primary goals of the LRC are to foster the life-long love of reading in our students, to help them become independent library users, and to have the necessary information literacy skills to help them be successful in today’s information age. We strive to create a vibrant learning environment that supports our teachers and their classroom curriculum. Teachers and students have access to approximately 12,000 books, 10 different magazines, subscription databases, and 10 computers with internet connections. Prekindergarten through fifth grade classes have scheduled weekly library times as well as open access throughout each school day. Students in grades six through eight do not have a scheduled library time but are always welcome any time during the school day.
Students have an opportunity to participate in several reading motivation programs: Accelerated Reader, Read Together Grow Together, Reading Is Magic, Texas 2X2, the Texas Bluebonnet Program, and the Texas Lone Star Program. For their efforts, students are awarded prizes, certificates and trophies.
